D’Arcy Drollinger is named San Francisco’s first Drag Laureate
  • March 17, 2020 – In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all nonessential indoor businesses are closed, including gay bars. Some are able to eventually be able to provide outdoor parklet options. Many, like The Stud, do not survive.
  • April 9, 2020 – Activist Phyllis Lyon, cofounder of the Daughters of Bilitis and other organizations, passes away at the age of 95.
  • June 24, 2020 – Former Supervisor Harry Britt, who succeeded Harvey Milk on the Board of Supervisors, passes away at the age of 82.
  • January 13, 2021 – Black gay rights activist Ken Jones passes away from cancer.
  • July 14, 2021 – Sally Gearhart, the nation’s first openly-LGBTQ professor to receive tenure, passes away at the age of 90.
  • January 29, 2022 – Kim Cosaro, longtime publisher of The Bay Times, passes away at her San Francisco home at the age of 68.
  • January 22, 2023 – After 27 years in business, restaurant/bar Harvey’s on the corner of 18th & Castro abruptly announces they are closing.
  • April 3, 2023 – Legendary drag queen Heklina, founder of Trannyshack and onetime co-owner of Oasis, passes away in London.
  • May 18, 2023 – D’Arcy Drollinger, co-owner of Oasis, is named San Francisco’s (and the nation’s) first Drag Laureate.
