On this date in 1998, Horst Hans Grahlmann, owner of Uncle Bert’s in the Castro as well as the Rainbow Cattle Company in Guerneville, was found murdered in his Russian River home along with Jason Bojore, one of his employees. A suspect arrested in 2002 was acquitted in 2006.

On this date in 2002, Harry Hay, a founder of the Mattachine Society and the Radical Faeries who is now honored on the Rainbow Honor Walk in the Castro, died in San Francisco at the age of 90.
