New museum for GLBT Historical Society?

The GLBT Historical Society is soliciting funds to create a permanent LGBTQ Museum and Research Center.

The museum is currently leasing space on 18th Street near Badlands with a lease that continues through 2022, but the site’s size — 1,600 square feet, according to the Bay Area Reporter — limits how much can be shown to the public. The organization hopes to find larger space in the Castro or South of Market for a permanent home.

The museum’s website reports that donations through December 31, 2019 will be matched up to a total of $50,000 by The Excelerate Foundation; Emily Rosenberg and Darlene deManincor; and Al Baum and Robert Holgate.

We note that the artistic rendering for their Vision 2020 campaign sure looks like the layout of the former Pottery Barn at the corner of Market and Castro. We don’t know if the similarities were intended as a hint, an aspiration, or pure coincidence.

Visit their Vision 2020 campaign for more information.
